My father loves pretty postcards. He doesn't much care for my abstract landscapes, and he is downright uncomfortable with the new images from my ghost series. (I'm sure every parents is uneasy when they are shown proof of their children explore abandoned building and dark alleyways.) For years, wherever I have visited and on all of my photo excursions, my father has asked me very nicely to just take one postcard picture for him. That's all he wants, one postcard. And I comply. It makes me feel good to think of him and take that postcard. I feel like my dad is with me for every single trip I go on, because of that one postcard I take only for him. So for his birthday last week, my father asked me to send him any print of my choosing. Naturally, I selected a pretty postcard taken during my American Southwest road trip last year – but I also threw in two abstract images from the same trip, for 'educational' purposes. Maybe one day they'll grow on him.
So here they are, folks. Enjoy!
