Us Inc, a Berlin curatorial collective that believes “it is not our differences that divide us, but rather our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences,” attempts to bring people together in one space through performance events that try to bend gender and sexuality norms – which they believe are not so black and white. I was asked by Us Inc to photograph "Dancing Sex" last week at Kreuzberg's Shift, with quite a diverse showcase of performances celebrating the different ways sex can be performed through dance. It was a fun and eye-opening evening, a very 'Berlin' experience, and the evening presented a very interesting photographic challenge for me – attempt to capture the art and sensuality behind each performance, and not just sexuality or eroticism. Dances included burlesque, strip tease, lap dance, performance art, and everything in between from all gender varieties and sexualities.
There are many images I love which I cannot post to my blog due to their explicit content, but please go to the Us Inc Facebook page to view these. I will post other favorites here. Enjoy!
